Taoism

Taoism:

There is a duality to this attraction I seem to have for the macabre. It is seen most prevalently in my fledgling interest in Taoism (the teachings of Kung Fu Tse), and my belief that much in life can be explained through the teachings of "Winne the Pooh". Ever read "The Tao of Pooh'? I recommend it.

Plato and Socrates:

Ever since an old friend gave me his leather bound copy of Plato's Republic as a gift, I have been hooked on this great philosopher and his teachings, as well as the Socratic method of his mentor. I hold these beliefs as dear as Pooh and Tao. Though I more often than not fall terribly short, my attempts to reach the light of that wisdom, both for fun and as a tool to teach and learn, has never ended.

In a way, my best friend Tom and I are like that classical pair. He is still the only one I know who can tear down any argument or postulate of mine with regularity (and it still pisses me off sometimes! ). He is the stone against which I test the mettle of my beliefs.

Monty Python & Dilbert:
(Western Philosophers Extraordinare!)

When my parents told me I was forbidden to watch these guys, I just had to find out what I was missing. The first time I saw the "Dead Parrot Sketch, I was hooked for life. It should be noted that I would not have met Nancy were it not for these humorous Brits (don't even ask). It is my firm belief the philosophy of Monty Python should be part of everyone's life - Never Take Yourself Too Seriously!

M.P. takes a jab at Religion
Sound File: "The Holy Hand-Grenade of Antioch!"

I keeping with the "Mobius Paradox" concept however, the other side of that is Dilbert.

Dilbert. Where every minute hypocritical aspect of life, home and career is scrutinized for pathetic weaknesses and stupidity....so it can be abused for our entertainment!

Why do I like Dilbert? Because it is so veryyyyy scarily like the many places I have worked. Especially Rutgers.

I also have a few published articles on the subject of office humor ala Dilbert.

For the Synaptically Challenged...Monty Python

"...And now for something completely different..."

Dilbert!
