Nuclear Submarine

Nuclear and Cogeneration Engineering

Okay, it goes something like this...

18 yrs old, Confused about a career path, little or no money to go to school, and deeply involved in a mutually destructive relationship with my high school girlfriend (she was a wonderful person but it was not meant to be...), I joined the Navy under the Naval Nuclear Power Program. There I learned how to drink massive quantities of alcohol without passing out, the intricacies of petty tyranny, and the sobering fear that comes with sleeping next to 24 Trident C-3 Strategic Nuclear Missiles.

I also learned how to operate Nuclear Reactors on Submarines (now that's scary), which, through an extremely long chain of events, is the only reason I am where I am today. This, when taken into account along with the fact that some of the finest individuals I have the honor of knowing I met while serving, made my Naval service an overall positive experience in my life.

The Submarines I was on and some of the the great souls I encountered.  If your looking boys, this page is for you...I never woulda made it without you...

  • NR-1:  Bill Whitehouse

  • SkipJack - SSN 585: Ray Brown, Tony Purcell, Gregg Kelso

  • Lewis & Clark SSBN 644 (Gold):  Tom Niuman (Nebula), Don Dewey (Dewey, The Dew Man), Dave Kromer (Diver Dawg), Curtis Stewart (Stew), Ron Shalk (Stallion), Vance Pumphrey, John Rassmussen

  • Benjamin Franklin - SSBN 640 (Blue):

Wanna meltdown a Nuclear Reactor? Visit the" K,,rnobyl " Online Nuclear Reactor Simulator ! " Yes, you too can operate your very own Nuclear Power Plant!

Anyway, after my discharge from the Navy, I moved into commercial nuclear. This...was not fun, and that fact, combined with a partially-self-inflicted personal tragedy was why I left the field.

I then moved into Cogeneration. I have worked at both Montclair University's and Rutgers University's cogen projects. It was at Rutgers that I learned HTML and did my first website.

I have written several articles on various engineering subjects.
